Of all the railroads up and down the Redwood Empire only the California Western Railroad (CWR) had a regular passenger service and need for depots. Both of CWR depots, Willits and Fort Bragg were built to show off the quality of the Union Lumber Company (the owner of the CWR) product – old growth redwood.
The original Fort Bragg depot was a
block or so south of the present one
as the old postcard right shows.
